I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. John 10:11 (NASB)
A shepherd is one who takes full responsibility for the welfare of the flock. A hireling will run from trouble, but a good shepherd will put himself in harms way for the welfare of the sheep. Jesus is our good shepherd and He put His life on the line for us, His sheep.
Feeding, leading, guiding, tending, healing, restoring, and providing for the sheep are all responsibilities of the Good Shepherd. No hurting, no condemnation, just loving and caring. Jesus really is that good to us.
